It's been awhile...

Recently I was the subject of a blog entry at Dogtopia and my dads reminded me that I hadn’t updated my blog in awhile. 2008 was a busy year with travels for my dads and I had a great time visiting with my Uncles Wheeler & Tim, my Aunt Jocelyn, and my canine companions at Dogtopia.

My dads recently went on a week long cruise to celebrate their 10th anniversary. I was sad I couldn’t go, but the time I got to spend with Aunt Jocelyn and my sleep over at Dogtopia was lots of fun! They told me about all the people they got a chance to meet over the course of the cruise. I was glad they got the chance to meet nice people since I wasn’t there to keep them company.

Not too long after they got back, I had a chance to get to play in some snow. We had a snowstorm that gave us about 6” of snow and I had a chance to romp in it some on my morning walk. It was lots of fun, but boy it was COLD!

I’m very happy about the warm weather that is coming as it means I might get to go to the dog park on the weekends!

So here’s to hoping I have better luck keeping my blog up to date in 2009.

Time for an update

So it's been awhile since I've written anything. I've been busy enjoying my time at Dogtopia. I'm usually so pooped at the end of the day, that I just want to sleep and writing in my blog is the last thing on my mind. But my dads said that people were probably wondering what had been going on in my life, so I should do an update.

My dads had the bathroom in our bedroom renovated, so we had to move into the other bedroom shortly after I moved into the house. Dads got to stay home some during the renovation which meant that I got to stay home too. The man doing the work made noises during the day which I barked at sometimes. My dads kept telling me to be quiet. But since the man was making noise, I wanted to make some too.

I got to experience snow and ice with my dads which was NOT fun. If it is cold and raining, the last thing I want to do is go out in it. But my dads insisted since I needed to go to the bathroom. When they did make me go out, I did my business and got back inside as fast as possible.

There was a nice Saturday in February though. I got a chance to go a dog park in Arlington with my cousin Angus. I had so much fun running around off leash with the other dogs. Since I don't get to do that outside very often, it was a blast.

On Valentine's Day, I got a Valentine from my friend Gus at Dogtopia. My dads want to meet Gus because they want to make sure he has honorable intentions.

Over President's Day Weekend, my dads went out of town and I got to spend the weekend at Dogtopia. When they got back I had a little bit of a cough. I had to go see the vet and they told my dads I had kennel cough. I had to stay away from other dogs for a few days and then was able to go back. In the meantime though, I got to spend plenty of time with my Dads which was very fun.

Last week, my dads bought something they call a laser pointer. I don't get it though. They keep trying to get me to watch the light on the ground -- but I'm not sure why they want me to do it. My dads are so strange sometimes.

Dog Bites Dog

My two dads were off of work last Wednesday and Dad Tim took me to Logan Circle park. I met a few new dogs, but one of them didn't like me and decided to bite me on my face. It didn't feel good and I ran to hide behind my Dad Tim after it happened. He took me home and my Dads cleaned up the spot where I got bit. It did not bother me, but they were concerned it was going to get infected. I went to daycare the next day and then Dad Tim had to come get me because my sore spot was getting worse and we went to see the doctor. This time we went to a different doctor because my normal one did not have any openings to see me. The new doctor was able to take a look at the spot where I was bit and cleaned it with some stuff that stung a little. He then gave my dad some medicine for me. I like taking the medicine because I get to eat treats with it. And I LOVE treats.

My spot is getting much better, although it really hasn't bothered me. Dad Jim says it makes me look like one tough bitch.

Happy New Year!!

So yesterday was the last day of 2007. My Dads went to go see a movie and I got to spend some time in my crate. I wasn't too excited to go in, but I didn't make a big fuss. When they came back we played fetch inside and then I got to meet Uncle Ed and Aunt Kelly. But then I had to go back into my crate again so they could go eat dinner.

After my Dads got back we hopped in the car and went to my Uncle John and Joe's. My dads were invited to a party to celebrate the ending of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 and the great thing about it was that I was invited too! I got to hang out with my cousin T-Bone as well as my uncles Wheeler and Tim again and my other cousin Angus. Angus and I played around for quite some time, we had so much fun. Cousin T-Bone was content to mostly watch us play and try and sneak some food from my dads and uncles.

I also go to meet my cousin Mona, Uncles John and Joe's cat. Or at least I tried to...she wasn't really interested and kept hissing and running away.

We were all up pretty late and I was playing a good bit of it, so my Dads decided to sleep a little later than normal today, but that was okay with me, I was exhausted from the long day I had already had.

My Dads keep telling me that I'm going to have so much fun tomorrow. I think we're going back to that place Dogtopia. If that is what is going to happen, I can't wait. I've had a lot of time this week to meet a bunch of dogs in the neighborhood, but I haven't had the opportunity to play with them nearly as long as I wanted to play. But I think tomorrow, I get to PLAY ALL DAY! I don't know why my Dads don't want to play too. I guess it's that "work" thing they keep talking about. Must be important, but I think play would be much more fun!

My First Visit To The Vet

My dads took me to the vet for the first time today. They wanted to make sure everything was okay with me and that I didn't have any health problems. I wasn't scared at all, after all it was a new place for me to visit and meet other dogs and people. The nice lady up front took us to the room where we got to wait for the vet. I didn't really want to stay in the room since I could hear all the people outside and I wanted to play with them. But after a couple of minutes, the vet came in and got down on the floor with me to check me out. My dads thought it was nice that I didn't have to get up on a table and the vet came down to me; I liked it too. After some time looking me over and checking me out, he told my dads that I was in great health.

End of my first week with my Two Dads

Wow, this week has flown by. It's hard to believe I've been with my two Dads for a week! Yesterday we went to Dogtopia so I they could test me with other dogs. Well, of course, I LOVE other dogs, so I passed with flying colors. My Dads were very happy to hear I did great and are excited that I get to spend time playing with other dogs while they go to work. I'm not sure why they want to go to work though when they could be spending all their time with ME!!

Last night I was really tired. It had been a long day and I had to convince them it was time to go to bed. I headed up the stairs and waited for them to come with me so I could go into my kennel.

This morning I got to meet some more dogs at Logan Circle and got to visit with some friends I had already made. I'm so happy my two Dads decided to adopt me. I'm one lucky pup!

Hildy Has Two Dads

So this blog is all about me and the adventures of my two dads, Jim and Tim. My name is Hildy. I'm a 3 y/o basenji/beagle/lab mix -- or that's what my dads were told.

So I'll start off with a little bit about me. I spent my first three years in West Virginia. My previous owner had two dogs, me and another pooch. We were terrorizing the neighborhood; he didn't keep a good eye on us. Some of our neighbors decided to call Animal Control and then they discovered we didn't have our rabies vaccination. In order for my old owner to get us back, he had to pay for our vaccinations in order to get us back. Well for some reason he decided not to and we ended up at a shelter. In October, the shelter contacted Homeward Trails and they decided to rescue me.

In the middle of October, my dads saw a flyer in our condo garage that had some dogs from Homeward Trails, including a picture of me. Since they had never heard of Homeward Trails, they went the website and found my description. They searched around a bunch and saw many different dogs, but kept coming back to my page. They discussed adopting me and while they were deciding, I got adopted by someone else. They were bummed, and why shouldn't they be, I mean, after all, I'm a great dog.

So they continued looking on Homeward Trails website, but they could never find any dog's profile that they liked as much as mine. The person that adopted me had another dog and a cat as well. During all my time in foster, I ignored cats and even passed the "cat test" with my adopter. But after two days with my adopter, I decided, I wanted to chase the cat and pin it down. So my adopter had to give me back. I was sad, but I knew eventually someone would be able to adopt me forever.

Dad Tim was showing some people at his work the Homeward Trails website and saw that I was back on the website and not adopted any more. He called Dad Jim and they filled out an application and then came to meet me at an adoption day at PetMac in Arlington. I was pretty excited that day, since there were all kinds of people and other dogs there, but Dads Jim and Tim spent all their time there with me. Someone else came by and started asking about me, but I knew that they weren't going to be my new family. Even though my name was Hildy and she was told I was a girl, she kept calling me a boy. She finally went away and let my soon-to-be Dads visit with me some more. Well I guess my cuteness and sweetness was apparent to them since they decided to adopt me.

So on the Saturday before Christmas, my Dads were able to pick me up from the foster home for the first time. I was very excited to see them again. There was so much to see and smell at my new home. We went for a walk, and got to play some that night.

The next day, we went down to visit my Dad Jim's family in the Tidewater area of Virginia. It was so much fun meeting all my cousins, aunts, and uncles. I was so cute, that they all wanted to play with me too!

Well, we came back the day after Christmas and I have been enjoying getting to know my new Dads more and more -- and I think they are enjoying getting to know me too.
