My First Visit To The Vet

My dads took me to the vet for the first time today. They wanted to make sure everything was okay with me and that I didn't have any health problems. I wasn't scared at all, after all it was a new place for me to visit and meet other dogs and people. The nice lady up front took us to the room where we got to wait for the vet. I didn't really want to stay in the room since I could hear all the people outside and I wanted to play with them. But after a couple of minutes, the vet came in and got down on the floor with me to check me out. My dads thought it was nice that I didn't have to get up on a table and the vet came down to me; I liked it too. After some time looking me over and checking me out, he told my dads that I was in great health.

End of my first week with my Two Dads

Wow, this week has flown by. It's hard to believe I've been with my two Dads for a week! Yesterday we went to Dogtopia so I they could test me with other dogs. Well, of course, I LOVE other dogs, so I passed with flying colors. My Dads were very happy to hear I did great and are excited that I get to spend time playing with other dogs while they go to work. I'm not sure why they want to go to work though when they could be spending all their time with ME!!

Last night I was really tired. It had been a long day and I had to convince them it was time to go to bed. I headed up the stairs and waited for them to come with me so I could go into my kennel.

This morning I got to meet some more dogs at Logan Circle and got to visit with some friends I had already made. I'm so happy my two Dads decided to adopt me. I'm one lucky pup!

Hildy Has Two Dads

So this blog is all about me and the adventures of my two dads, Jim and Tim. My name is Hildy. I'm a 3 y/o basenji/beagle/lab mix -- or that's what my dads were told.

So I'll start off with a little bit about me. I spent my first three years in West Virginia. My previous owner had two dogs, me and another pooch. We were terrorizing the neighborhood; he didn't keep a good eye on us. Some of our neighbors decided to call Animal Control and then they discovered we didn't have our rabies vaccination. In order for my old owner to get us back, he had to pay for our vaccinations in order to get us back. Well for some reason he decided not to and we ended up at a shelter. In October, the shelter contacted Homeward Trails and they decided to rescue me.

In the middle of October, my dads saw a flyer in our condo garage that had some dogs from Homeward Trails, including a picture of me. Since they had never heard of Homeward Trails, they went the website and found my description. They searched around a bunch and saw many different dogs, but kept coming back to my page. They discussed adopting me and while they were deciding, I got adopted by someone else. They were bummed, and why shouldn't they be, I mean, after all, I'm a great dog.

So they continued looking on Homeward Trails website, but they could never find any dog's profile that they liked as much as mine. The person that adopted me had another dog and a cat as well. During all my time in foster, I ignored cats and even passed the "cat test" with my adopter. But after two days with my adopter, I decided, I wanted to chase the cat and pin it down. So my adopter had to give me back. I was sad, but I knew eventually someone would be able to adopt me forever.

Dad Tim was showing some people at his work the Homeward Trails website and saw that I was back on the website and not adopted any more. He called Dad Jim and they filled out an application and then came to meet me at an adoption day at PetMac in Arlington. I was pretty excited that day, since there were all kinds of people and other dogs there, but Dads Jim and Tim spent all their time there with me. Someone else came by and started asking about me, but I knew that they weren't going to be my new family. Even though my name was Hildy and she was told I was a girl, she kept calling me a boy. She finally went away and let my soon-to-be Dads visit with me some more. Well I guess my cuteness and sweetness was apparent to them since they decided to adopt me.

So on the Saturday before Christmas, my Dads were able to pick me up from the foster home for the first time. I was very excited to see them again. There was so much to see and smell at my new home. We went for a walk, and got to play some that night.

The next day, we went down to visit my Dad Jim's family in the Tidewater area of Virginia. It was so much fun meeting all my cousins, aunts, and uncles. I was so cute, that they all wanted to play with me too!

Well, we came back the day after Christmas and I have been enjoying getting to know my new Dads more and more -- and I think they are enjoying getting to know me too.
